Nestled in the mountains of Colorado, this 7500-square-foot lodge is the textbook definition of a dreamy winter retreat. Complete with soaring vaulted ceilings, charming exposed-wood beams, and enviable views of snow-covered pines, this cozy cabin checks all the boxes. So when sought-after interior designer Layne Kula was tasked with furnishing the rustic family home, she leaned into the alpine aesthetic to curate a space that's equal parts styled and homey.

"The challenge that comes with such a spectacular house is the juxtaposition of embracing such a thick, heavy structure and making it feel light, airy, and livable," Kula told MyDomaine. "The logs and the wood infrastructure had a tendency to get super dark super quickly, but by painting a few accent walls, introducing bright, fresh neutrals, opening up the floor plan, and adding a variety of natural décor pieces and accents—such as greenery and plant life—we were able to turn this house into a home," she adds. "It really lives in those year-round, wintery details." Honestly, we couldn't agree more.

Built in 1995, the new-age log cabin, comprised predominantly of large wooden logs, boasts soaring vaulted ceilings. Furnished with earthy, mountain-inspired textures and tones, each room exudes warmth and coziness.

The four-bedroom family home rests on a plot of seven acres of gorgeous mountain land, Kula tells MyDomaine. "It's a true log cabin, with logs for just about all the interior walls, and an incredible basement that has been converted into a fully functioning wet bar and wine cave," she explains.

Although the cabin's vaulted ceilings are the stuff of Pinterest dreams, furnishing the open-floor-plan living room came with a particular set of challenges, explains Kula. "It requires that everything works together seamlessly, as opposed to a space that is more compartmentalized and designed room by room," she elaborates. "Although it's difficult, when you get it right, you create a space that feels so right. That's the real magic. It all feels so thoughtful and intentional; every detail is in its rightful, styled place."

This cozy corner is just one of the many spaces where every detail is, in fact, in its rightful, styled place. "When looking at the space in detail, it felt only natural to offset the dark, heavy wood grains with something fresher and lighter to really encourage the play on natural light," Kula explains. The textured sheepskin rugs, the woven stools, the hanging rattan chair, and the greenery playfully contrast yet perfectly complement the log wall interior of the cabin.

Just a few steps away, a cozy oversize leather couch, a collection of textured throw pillows, and a wood-topped coffee table with industrial details contribute to the overall mountain vibe of the space, explains Kula.

In the kitchen, modern pendant light fixtures meet finely crafted cabinetry and earth-tone marble countertops.

"Earthy tones were the top priority, so our color palette consisted of varying wood grains and textures, soft whites, and creamy neutrals, rich shades of forest green, matte brass accents, and pops of soft jewel tones," offers Kula.

In the great room (otherwise known as the dining room), a stunning antler chandelier lends the gorgeous space that wow factor.

A custom accent wall in the great room, featuring a gorgeous textured cork and gold wallpaper, brings the entire room to life and makes it feel like you're dining in a chic, snow-covered lodge after a long day on the slopes, says Kula.

A gilded bar cart—stocked with whiskey, naturally—sits in the corner of the dining room, and greenery-filled vases add a welcome pop of color and texture to the vignette.

In the bedroom, cozy vibes abound. A fur throw, soft lighting, and plenty of pillows make you want to curl up and read a great book in this plush retreat.

Delightfully campy details, such as the matching set of bear lamps, make the space kitschy in the best possible way.

"So much of this house lived in curating the details," says Kula. "I spent a great deal of time scouring flea markets, vintage stores, antique markets, and more and was fortunate enough to find a treasure trove of unique pieces, namely a set of vintage wooden ice skates that double as art and an amazing pair of old snowshoes," she reveals. "They add so much character to the space and really elevate that log cabin feel." Quite frankly, if this were our lodge, we'd never want to leave.
