I Used to Hate the Kitchen Rug Trend, Now I Can't Live Without Mine

The House of Noa

As a freelance design writer, I spend a lot of my time thinking (and, of course, writing) about the biggest trends that shape how we decorate our homes. But in my personal capacity as a design enthusiast, there are some trends I still cant wrap my mind around.

Take rugs in kitchens, for example.

Yes, I understand a great rug can add some much-needed character into your home (and warm up those cold tiles, but the concept seemed wildly impractical. What if you spilled marinara sauce all over your beautiful rug? What if your rug spilled out from underneath you—especially when you’re holding a sharp knife or a scorching pot of pasta?

As someone whose had my fair share of kitchen incidents, adding a rug to my space seemed more like a nuisance than a style moment.

Until I discovered NamaMat’s kitchen collection, that is. A stylish rug with a practical twist, the NamaMat is the one kitchen décor item I didn’t know I needed but now can’t live without.

Made of a thick, 3/4-inch polyurethane foam that’s free of phalates, the NamaMat is a plush layer that makes my time perched over my stovetop considerably more comfortable.

In addition to feeling perfectly plush underneath my feet, this mat was designed with your kitchen in mind.

A stylish rug with a practical twist, the NamaMat is the one kitchen décor item I didn’t know I needed but now can’t live without.

The beveled edges were made to keep people from slipping, which is something I can happily attest to. My live-in boyfriend and I both have clumsy streaks, but neither of us have tripped over the NamaMat since we added it to our kitchen about a month ago. The base of the mat has enough grip to keep it in place. In fact, the only time my NamaMat moves is when I physically lift it to vacuum my kitchen. And if stains are of concern, don’t worry: You can easily wipe off pasta sauce spills and coffee drips with a damp paper towel.

Oh, and did I mention it actually looks good, too? Available in a few colorways, the NamaMat boasts a subtle floral print that adds a touch of character to my otherwise ordinary kitchen.

Not to toot my kitchen’s horn, but my boyfriend and I receive a lot of compliments on the mat whenever we have guests over. I’m so grateful for NamaMat’s stylish, stress-free design that this is one décor secret I’ll readily share.
