Terrain and Anthropologie

Terrain is my holiday decorating go-to. I love how they blend natural elements like evergreens and magnolia leaves with the perfect amount of holiday cheer. Their fresh wreaths are beautiful and fill your whole home with the scent of the season. For more eclectic pieces, I love to visit abc Carpet & Home in New York City. During the holiday season, the store transforms into a winter wonderland, and you can find the most interesting and unique holiday décor. I dream of decking the halls with their one-of-a-kind treasures.” —Danielle Chiprut, interior decorator, designer and founder of Danielle Rose Design Co.

“I get most of my holiday décor from Anthropologie and small businesses on Etsy. I can find the perfectly whimsical ornament or mercury glass tree at Anthro. For something handmade, I look to small shops on Etsy to provide custom pieces that are truly one of a kind.” —Michelle Gage, founder of Michelle Gage Interior Design

“I’m in love with the holiday décor from Terrain. Their collection has a nostalgic feel to it, as if the items could have been handed down from your grandmother. Other pieces of theirs have a hint of whimsy that could add some quirkiness to your existing collection of holiday décor.” —Meg McSherry, founder of Meg McSherry Interiors

Craft Stores

“I love shopping at craft stores for my holiday décor, because I'm not limited to the ‘Christmas aisle’ for my findings. Sometimes, what I'm looking for isn't found in the seasonal section, so browsing the floral, ribbon, and beading departments can be just the solution I need for DIY projects. Crafts stores such as Michael's and Joann Fabrics are my go-to, and there's usually an online coupon you can use to score your purchases for 50 percent off.” —Eneia White, owner of Eneia White Interiors

Vintage and Secondhand Stores

“My favorite decorations for Christmas are vintage. There is just something that's so homey and cozy about this season anyway, and vintage pieces that have lived many lives before truly seem appropriate for the holidays. My go-tos for specific items are eBay and Etsy, but if you're looking to browse or don't know where to start, check out Chairish, One Kings Lane, or even smaller sites like Mercari. You can give these old pieces new life and new traditions in your own home for years to come. Sustainable, storied, and chic.” —Shannon Claire Smith, principal and owner of Shannon Claire Interiors

“Don't be afraid to think outside the box. Some of my favorite tree trimmings come from unique finds at vintage stores. I've loved incorporating beautiful velvet or silk ribbons into my garlands the past few years, so don't hold back on trying something new!” —Kira Obermeier, founder of Kira David Design

Small or Local Businesses

“I like to shop local small businesses for holiday décor. Chapman’s Greenhouse located in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts, has taken care of me for well over a decade. They supply everything from trees, wreaths, garlands, and beautiful custom window boxes to unique ornaments and one of a kind hostess gifts.” —Meggie Hosler, founder of Meggie H. Interiors

“During this time of unconventionality, in-person shopping is no longer a luxury. Therefore, this is a great time to become familiar with small shops that offer holiday décor. In doing this, not only are we shopping local, we are helping a small business. A simple Google search of 'local home décor shops' has led me to some gems.” —Brenda Danso, founder and creative director of BD Interior Design

"Since celebrations are much smaller this year, I'm a fan of going all out with a gorgeous tabletop to make things still feel festive. I love the assortment of items from Fete Home. They have fun and colorful printed tablecloths, gorgeous glassware, and special accessories to bring your table to life. Add in some flowers from your local florist, and a dinner for four suddenly feels like a fancy soiree. They are a small business with big style." —Kate Smith, founder of Kate Smith Interiors

“I like incorporating handmade ornaments and décor from makers on Etsy and local Christmas décor markets here in my community. They add a wonderful authentic feel to my Christmas decoration. Plus, I love supporting small businesses, especially during the holidays.” —Veronica Solomon, founder of Casa Vilora Interiors

A Mix of Everywhere

“As someone who loves the holidays, especially Christmas, I tackle holiday décor with a different sort of passion. I want unique, fun, and beautiful pieces that I can mix and match year after year. I usually purchase at three places: CB2 for sophisticated fun—especially brass and acrylic pieces—HomeGoods and Home Sense for unique pieces, and because I love the thrill of the hunt, smaller shops like Reflektion Design and Etsy when I’m looking for funky items or have something specific in mind. ‘Tis the season!” —Beth Diana Smith, founder and lead designer of Beth Diana Smith Interior Design
