Step Inside Influencer Ashley Roberston's Functional, Modern, and Glamorous Texas Home

When Ginger Curtis of Urbanology Designs got to work on designing Ashley Robertson's Texas home, she knew the project would be uniquely different from the other homes she's worked on. As an influencer and blogger Robertson, aka The Teacher Diva, needed a home that was not only functional, but beautiful enough to be incorporated into her content in a thoughtful way.

"We knew going in that Ashley was going to use her home as the backdrop for content for her blog and social media channels," Curtis tells MyDomaine. "We wanted her home to not only be functional for everyday living, but provide a bespoke backdrop for all the content that she would create."

Robertson agrees that keeping her career in mind was a priority while working on the design. And while, for most people, that consideration might not extend past the actual home office, Robertson and Curtis focused on creating photo-friendly vignettes throughout the home as well.

"Given what I do and that I work from home, I needed a functional office space that would double as a studio," she says. "We also wanted to create little moments throughout the house that could act as a back drop or vignette for photos or product styling."

Now, after a year of design work, Robertson has no complaints about the finished product, thanks to the intentional choices she and Curtis made throughout the process.

"I feel like the home is an extension of my personal style," she says. "I love neutrals, functional modern living, and I love a hint of glam."

"For the living room we kept the palette monochromatic with a polished and sophisticated feel," Curtis explains. "But don’t be fooled, we didn’t sacrifice comfort for beauty, we achieved both."

"The styling for the built-ins shelving is artistic yet pared back," she says. "It feels fresh and balanced without being overstuffed with curiosities."

The living room opens directly onto the kitchen, so keeping the neutral palette and clean lines consistent from room to room helped Curtis make the whole design feel cohesive.

"The kitchen is styled to feel fresh, bright and modern," Curtis explains. "Oversized pendant lights and the bold black-and-white marble island steal the show."

"We balanced this look with a very minimal modern vent hood and warm yet simple floating shelves," she says. "Pops of artwork pull in a creative element we love."

"The office we stayed to be uber chic with a touch of modern glam," Curtis says. "The back of the bookcase is lined with a dark grass cloth wall paper to give us all that gorgeous contrast. From there we were very intentional about adding pieces that not only reflected Ashley’s style but felt interesting and inspiring."

One of Curtis' favorite elements in the home is this bust in the entryway. It plays beautifully off the ornate, gilded mirror.

"The primary bedroom was designed to feel like a retreat, a getaway within the home," Curtis explains. "With vaulted ceilings and tons of natural light we had the perfect backdrop to create a space that felt calming and inspiring, not overly styled."

Robertson describes the primary bedroom as one of her favorite spots in the house. "I love the gold mirror in my primary bedroom," she says. "And the tall ceiling, large widows, and white details feel incredible calming and tranquil."

The primary bathroom feels like an extension of the primary bedroom thanks to a similarly neutral palette and tranquil vibe.

"The dining room is meant to feel relaxed yet artistic and slightly refined," Curtis explains. "We didn’t want formal per se but a touch of polish that felt livable and unique."

Now, looking back on the project, Curtis not only feels pride in the beautiful designs, but in the connection she forged with Robertson as well.

"What started out as a business relationship quickly turned into a very dear friendship," Curtis says. "I admire and adore Ashley more than I can say. She is humble, kind, hardworking, and one incredible boss babe."
