KitchenAid's Color of the Year Is Sure to Spice Up Your Kitchen

2022's predicted color story reads mostly muted and neutral—countless brands, designers, and paint producers chose earthy greens as the defining colors of the year. We love an earthy green, but when another color of the year comes onto the scene, you know we have to check it out.

Acclaimed kitchen appliance brand KitchenAid just announced its choice for the 2022 Color of the Year, and it's not at all what you would expect. KitchenAid's chosen shade is Beetroot, a rich magenta that the brand hopes will bring some joy and vibrancy to everyday moments that sometimes slip under the radar, like cooking or baking.

Beetroot is going to be featured on some of KitchenAid's classic appliances, from their iconic stand mixer to their handy blender. The same appliances we know and love, just with a brand new hue. The shade is a breath of fresh air among the many neutrals chosen to define this year and is sure to spice up your kitchen.

Though the shade is bright, it's also playful, impactful, and adaptable. If you're weary of incorporating color into your kitchen, appliances are generally a great way to take the risk in a minimal way. Beetroot is bold enough to pop against a neutral, all-white kitchen, but also muted enough to blend well with other kitchen styles, from industrial to farmhouse.

KitchenAid's choice falls in line with that of Pantone, who selected a vibrant purple, Veri Peri, as the color of the year for 2022. Both brands are unafraid to step outside the box with color and made choices that are vibrant, chic, and oh-so-fun.

There's a hidden message behind Beetroot, much like how the shade is disguised within the beet itself, explains Jessica McConnell of Whirlpool Color, Finish, and Material Design.

"Looking at the outside of the beet, you’d never know the brightness concealed within,” she shares. "When sliced open, it reveals extraordinary vibrance inside. The rich magenta with lush satin finish makes every day more vibrant with a pop of energizing color."
